New Year, New Focus, New approach, New image

Hello Friends of Lynn Royce Taylor Ministries,

I've just completed 21 days of prayer and fasting. I felt strongly led to embark on this 21 days set aside to pray and seek clarity of vision, God's direction, and answers to some specific issues.

This is not my first 21 day fast, but I must say, unlike previous fasts, this one had elements that were truly different. Usually by day 4 or 5 the major hunger fades and maintenance is fairly simple. Not so with this one. Perhaps it was several years of bad eating habits on the road, maybe it was because I was about 20# overweight, might simply be my age. Whatever the cause, there were some challenges at days 9 and 10. Nothing severe, but I felt that still small voice speaking that if I would endure to the end, I would have the answers I sought. I'm pleased to say that with each passing day those answers are coming.

For me, the music and singing ability God has given is merely a vehicle to deliver a much more important message. Yes, a lifetime of "schooling in performance and entertainment" has helped me craft my communications skills and most people aren't falling asleep or rushing for the door at one of my events. But in the coming days the focus is shifting to the message having a stronger emphasis.

Recent studies, as you'll find in my other commentaries, are screaming loudly that the youth of America and the world are leaving the church, never to return. The statistics are striking and the solution seems to be directly related to "strong teaching." When surveyed, these 20s something young adults weren't concerned about the worship music, the hype, or the contemporary production and high tech delivery. They were interested most in CONTENT! Yes, these younger adults want strong, solid teaching that connects and proves the Bible works in daily life. They want to make the connect to the science and history as reliable and trustworthy, as well as the normal spiritual / doctrinal aspects of the church.

Next, my sincere assessment is that the church has also failed to show the "Power of God, the Authority of each believer, and the Living Word" unabashedly demonstrated. Jesus declared to his disciples that they would do even greater things than they had seen him do. If he told those same disciples to go into all the world with the Gospel message, and we tell our people to do likewise, then I ask you, how can we fail to admonish these same people in the command to do greater than Jesus was seen to do?

Get the picture? You will, if you'll allow me to come and minister to your own church or small group. Let's have a meeting. Let's discuss the Word of God and the authority of the believer. Let's gather together as they did in the upper room and see the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit and power. Let's see that power administered across the immediate body and out into the community. Let's observe how that demonstrated power attracts those both on the fringe and those outside the church walls ... even as Jesus attracted the multitudes.

The Bible tells me that the "fame of Jesus" spread across the land and multitudes followed him. He was surrounded by thousands who sought what they saw him do in the lives of those we read about. What other reason would someone assume that Jesus could restore sight, hearing, mobility? Because they saw it with their own eyes, heard it with their own ears, witnessed the rising and walking away. They townspeople knew the cleansed lepers, they knew the freed demoniacs, they understood those manifestations.

The Spiritual corrections required teaching. Those who were in need of spiritual reconstruction were the recipients of Jesus' parables, the practical correlations to farmers, tax collectors, and merchants. These were the teaching images to the vineyard worker, the laborer, the craftsman, the lady of the house. It was hope to the newlywed, help to the poor, and encouragement to the depressed.

When Jesus said, "You are the light of the world," he was also looking down the corridor of time to our own generation. He was giving us the same "authority" to take the ministry to our multitudes. It's that same spirit that raised Christ from the dead that dwells in you. Take it to your church, to your neighborhood, to your workplace, to your family.
